About the speakers

John Thompson
John Thompson is currently a Senior Lecturer in Organisational Behaviour and Leadership at the University of Ulster at Jordanstown. He is Course Director of the MSc in Management and Corporate Governance. He has published four texts on management development and 27 articles in academic journals. His recent publication is Leadership: Teach Yourself Series.

While basing development on robust leadership theories the ‘what’, his interests is in focusing on the ‘how’ of becoming a more effective leaders. His view is that the recognition of individual choice is at the heart of individual change and that recognition of choice is a key element in development activity. To make these choices leaders need to know to implement change. John promotes this agenda through his work as lecturer, trainer and more recently executive coach. He has presented at major conferences on the ‘how’ of leadership.

John has been a Management Accountant in Allen Bradley Electronics, a database developer in Black and Decker, a senior manager in Lear Fan responsible for ITsystems and a Principal in the Civil Service in a management development role. He has consulted with over 40 organizations, nationally and in the Republic Of Ireland. In total he brings over 30 years of experience in management and personal development to his current views on leadership
