practices and environments have led to unprecedented demands on today’s leaders.
The MSc in Executive Leadership for Hospitality, Tourism and Leisure is more than an academic programme of
study and knowledge acquisition, it is a personal and professional journey to excellence in leading people and
organisations.
The Context
The significant growth of the Hospitality, Tourism and Leisure sectors over the last few years reflects not only the changing operational environment and competitiveness in Ireland but also is due to the growth of these sectors worldwide. The opportunities presented by the new dynamic operating environment present significant challenges to executive managers in the industry. This programme is designed to equip executive managers with the competencies required to make best use of
opportunities presented.
Who should attend?
The MSc in Executive Leadership for Hospitality,Tourism and Leisure is targeted at senior executives in a leadership role within their organisation. Typically, participants will have significant budgetary and/or people management experience gained in a senior managerial role. Applicants will normally hold a degree or equivalent professional qualification. Exceptionally however, consideration will be given to those who can demonstrate a recognised track record in the practice of management. The programme will also be of interest to organisations addressing significant change and/or succession planning issues at a senior level.
Course Structure and Content
This two year, part-time strategic development programme is structured around seven taught modules each lasting three days and one five-day module is delivered at University of Denver, USA. The taught modules are delivered at high quality venues most convenient to the majority of participants. Induction and Graduation will take place at the University of Ulster,
Jordanstown campus.
Certification
Assessment is by a company-based assignment at the end of each module. On successful completion of all eight modules participants will be awarded the Postgraduate Diploma in Executive Leadership. Those who go on to complete the dissertation will be awarded the MSc in Executive Leadership.
Business Institute
The Business Institute is located within the Ulster Business School at the University of Ulster. The remit of the Business Institute is to support the management and business development needs of managers, directors and senior executives in all sectors of industry. The Business Institute is widely recognised throughout the island of Ireland for the quality and range of programme
provision in the area of management development. All departments within the Ulster Business School achieved
a maximum score of 24/24 for excellence in teaching and learning at the last Quality Assurance Assessment. The Institute’s members are drawn primarily from industry. This is reflected in the pragmatic action learning and problem solving approach that has become a recognised hallmark of teaching within the Institute.
Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management
The Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management has been involved in the education and development of
vocational management programmes for Hospitality, Tourism, Events and Cultural & Leisure sectors for
over thirty years. Members of the department have wide experience of teaching at management level and
have developed industry partnerships with many international companies.
